All of Trustway Homes come with a Rinnai tankless water heater as standard. Other builders home include 40 or 50 gallon tanked water heaters which cost the homeowner money to heat, even when no one is home. The tankless hot water system never runs out of hot water and only uses energy when hot water is called for by the homeowner. You will never again run out of hot water, plus you will see your gas bill greatly reduced.
Other options that can be used to reduce energy usage are extended eaves. With extended eaves, the amount of solar heating in the summer is reduced. 33% of all heat loss in the lower level is through the top third of the foundation wall. Closed cell foam insulation dramatically reduces heat loss at the box cells.
Trustway also has experience with solar energy. Though this is Wisconsin, solar energy is becoming more and more practical. Photovoltaic (PV) panels, mounted on the roof, generate electricity which is sold back to the Electric Company for twice the cost of what they then charge you for electricity. In addition, solar thermal panels on the roof will generate hot water for your home needs. Presently, the payback on these systems is about 16 years. With no moving parts, the warranty for the PV panels is 25 years.
