Price Per Square Foot

August 29th, 2013

We are often asked, “What is your price per square foot?”

When asked, we always tell any buyer what our cost is per square foot for that model but what is that really telling the potential buyer?  Well, it tells the buyer what the price is when you take the cost of the house and divide it by the square footage.  In other words, very little.

Price per square foot does not tell you how many windows are in the home or the quality of the windows (i.e,- vinyl or wood clad), it doesn’t tell you the size of the garage of even if it is a two or three car garage.  It doesn’t tell you how many lineal feet of cabinets are in the house or how much granite is in the house.  It doesn’t tell you the amount of insulation in the walls or the attic.  It doesn’t tell you if the home has a screened porch included, what the plumbing fixtures are or the amount of tile or wood flooring.

We could go on and on but you are probably getting the point.

When looking for a new home, you need to first clearly define your budget and what you want in your new home.  Once you have defined those two items, you can begin talking with builders about getting the home of your dreams.
